The method may be used to evaluate the following qualities of engine oils when used in internal combustion engines under heavy duty conditions of operation: the tendency to form oxidation products contributing to corrosion of copper-lead bearings; the oxidation stability at high temperatures in the presence of lead and copper catalyst, the stability being measured by viscosity increase; and the tendency to form lacquer on engine components running at high temperatures.
