This method may be used to evaluate the following qualities of crankcase oils when used in compression-ignition engines operated under endurance conditions: the ability of the lubricating oil to prevent excessive piston groove depoists which could lead to ring sticking; and the ability of the lubricating oil to prevent the formation of excessive deposits on the piston skirt and lands.
