This report presents information on energy-limited hydraulic starting systems for gas turbine engines. An energy limited hydraulic start system consists of a gas charged hydraulic accumulator to provide a fixed amount of stored energy and a positive displacement mechanical conversion device to do work. The information presented herein is intended to familiarize the aerospace industry with the design, and system performance characteristics of energy-limited hydraulic starting systems.
