Inadvertent movement and illicit trafficking in radioactive materials are not a new phenomenon. This standard addresses the procedural aspects of detecting radioactive materials by the instrumentation used in the process. This cover the techniques to search, locate and possibly identify radioactive substances. The specifications of Clause 4 of this standard are of informative character only today, they are aimed for giving an overview on principles and possibilities of the instruments available. For relevant requirements and valid test procedures for the instruments to be used, on international level the respective IEC Standards apply, for Germany their national adoption by DIN EN or DIN IEC Standards.
