Description / Abstract: FORD FLTM EU-AJ 051-01, March 10, 2000 - METHOD OF CARBON TYPE ANALYSIS OF LUBRICATING OILS BY INFRARED SPECTROSCOPY

This method is primarily applicable to additive-free lubricating oilbase-stocks. A carbon-typeanalysis is obtained in terms of % C, % CN and % Cp, being thepercentages of the total number ofcarbon atoms in aromatic, napthenic, and paraffinic structuresrespectively.

This method is limited to the ranges:

CA 3 % - 25 %

Cp 43 % - 72 %

This method may also be utilized with additive containing oilsproviding it is recognized that thefigures obtained will be modified by the type and quantity of additivepresent.
