The purpose of this paper is first to present some new experimental evidence relating the physiological effects of humidity and temperature to Thermal Discomfort for both unclothed and clothed subjects and secondly to relate the observed discomfort to the new ASHRAE ET*. In the course of our analysis we studied both the physiology and sense of discomfort simultaneously observed under environmental conditions in which ambient and mean radiant temperatures, humidity and clothing were all varied. These varying conditions are defined in terms of a Standard Effective Temperature (SET*), which is identical numerically to the new ASHRAE ET*.
