Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) are becoming recognized by many top managers for the important contributions they can make to the success of a manufacturing based business. This article describes the plant wide MES application employed at the Roanoke manufacturing facility of Tower Automotive. It is a plant wide implementation supporting a fully automated facility. This paper describes how MES assists plant management by using information technology to manage and coordinate the high volume data needs of a fully automated facility.
