In this paper, the Windsor experiment in partnership and collaboration with the Chrysler Corporation, for identifying desirable features of a manufacturing education program is overviewed. The complex and changing roles of all partners in such initiatives, i.e. universities, industry and government, are discussed. Innovations in the curriculum development process using formal design methodologies are presented.
