This guide describes the various choices that an engineer must consider when developing a medium voltage (5 to 46 kV) cable specification for utility use. It is designed to acquaint the user with those criteria necessary to ensure the cable will perform as intended. Since a variety of options will be discussed, the guide assumes that the developer of cable specifications will have some knowledge of the design and function of the individual components of the cable as well as the performance characteristics that are desired for the complete cable.
